Alytus St. Benedict Gymnasium Students in Lithuania Commemorate the Holocaust

On September 23, students from the Alytus St. Benedict Gymnasium, Alytus Lithuania, commemorated National Memorial Day for the Genocide of Lithuanian Jews with a series of posters inspired by YIVO’s online exhibition, Beba Epstein: The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Girl, translated into Lithuanian with the support of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The first exhibition in the YIVO Bruce and Francesca Cernia Slovin Online Museum, The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Girl explores East European Jewish life in the 20th and 21st centuries through the true story of Beba Epstein, whose autobiography is the centerpiece of the exhibition. Irena Leščinskienė, Deputy Director for Education and Lithuanian Language and Literature Teacher at Alytus Gymnasium, was introduced to Beba’s story and the online exhibition during a Teacher’s Training Program led by YIVO in Lithuania in June 2025.
