What topics will this class cover?
In this course, students will continue to acquire the skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing, with special attention to orality and pronunciation. They will reinforce the basics established in the previous courses through regular grammar and conversation exercises and reviews based on different books for advanced learners (especially Yiddish II by Mordkhe Schaechter, Yidish af yidish by David Goldberg, and Mit vort un maysim by Khonen Bordin).
In addition, this course will seek to make students more familiar with the uses of the loshn-koydesh component of the language.
We will support the topics with readings from actual (or slightly adapted) texts, and students will be encouraged to read current texts from the Yiddish press and Yiddish magazines.
