Three Exhibitions About YIVO in Europe
YIVO is the subject of 3 exhibitions in Europe this September:
YIVO in Vilnius: The Beginning of the Legend opened on September 30 at the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow as part of the "Lithuania in Krakow: Season of Culture" series. The exhibition is presented by the Lithuanian Culture Institute and the Galicia Jewish Museum in partnership with the Lithuanian Central State Archives, Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania, The Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, and YIVO. The co-curators are Giedrė Jankevičiūtė and Lara Lempertiene, who works as an archivist and librarian for YIVO's Vilna Collections project.

On September 20, an exhibition in honor of YIVO's 90th anniversary went on view in the Seimas, the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania, in conjunction with a full-day conference about YIVO, “YIVO: From Yiddish Academy in Vilna to Global Institution." The exhibition, a joint project of YIVO and the Jewish Community of Lithuania, was curated by Eddy Portnoy.
On September 22, a small exhibition on YIVO was presented at the entrance of the Bibliographic Center of Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania to showcase the library's partnership with YIVO for the Vilna Collections Project. The Bibliographic Center, located in the St. George (Šv. Jurgio) church, is where YIVO books and documents were hidden from the Soviets for over 40 years by librarian Antanas Ulpis. The exhibition was curated by Lara Lempertiene and Kristina Dudaite, who is a graduate of YIVO's summer Yiddish language program and a librarian working on the Vilna Collections Project.
